International House

On our first day, we take a placement test to determine our level and to find which class is the best fit for us.

Our teachers speak to us very kindly and patiently.

Although my English level is still fairly low, and there are many things that I wasn’t able to understand, when I would ask my teacher in class a question they would very politely teach me the answer.  Because of this, I was able to learn many new vocabulary and the meanings of new sentence structures.

I learned that for the things I didn't understand, it was important to not be shy and to ask questions.  Using new language as much as possible through everyday conversation is very important.

Even in just 4 weeks, I was able to improve my English.

In the classroom, there are many chances to speak with students of other nationalities and to learn about their home countries.

The thing that I was most interested in was the variety of different cultures, and especially speaking about food.  I enjoyed thinking about how I could explain my own country’s food to others.

Each student stays for a different period of time, so friends that I became close with sometimes graduated and went back to their home country.  This is always sad, but I was able to understand the idea that we sometimes have once in a lifetime encounters.

After class, I sometimes participated in school activities.

International House staff brought me to places like San Diego’s famous La Jolla Beach and shopping malls with some classmates, where we had a good time and were able to become closer friends.

My living situation.

Before coming to San Diego, I was having trouble deciding whether I wanted to stay in a homestay or in a dorm, but I thought I’d like to be more independent, so I finally decided on staying in the International dormitory.

There were students of many different nationalities staying in the student dorm as well.

My room was a two person room, so I had a Taiwanese roommate.

On days off, my roommate and I rented a car and took a trip together.

Because my roommate was able to drive for me, I was able to see scenery that is completely different from Japan.

My experience studying abroad was really a perfect time.

四週間の短期サンディエゴ留学

語学学校

私たちは、登校初日にプレースメントテスト（クラス分けテスト）をして自分達のレベルに合った授業を受けることができます。

私の学校の先生方は、とても親身になって話を聞いて下さいました。

私の英語レベルはまだまだ低くて、理解できない内容もいくつかありましたが、授業の先生に質問すればするほど丁寧に教えていただけるので、いろんな単語や文章の意味を理解することができました。

わからないことは、恥ずかしがらずになんでも質問すること、それを日常生活の会話でどんどん使ってみることが大切だと思います。

四週間だけでも自分の英語力の基礎が出来上がってきました。

学校内では、いろんな国籍の留学生と母国のことについて話す機会が多かったです。

本当に様々な文化があり、得に食べ物の話は興味深かったです。自国の食べ物について話す時は、どう説明したら伝わるかを考えるのが楽しかったです。

生徒達はそれぞれ滞在期間が違うので、仲の良いお友達が卒業して遠い母国に帰ってしまうのは少し寂しかったですが、一期一会の素晴らしさを味わうことができました。

授業の後には、スクールアクティビティに時々参加しました。

サンディエゴで有名なLa Jolla  beachやショッピングモールなどに連れてってもらって、他のクラスのお友達とも仲良くなれる楽しい時間だったと思います。

滞在先

私は、サンディエゴに来る前はホームステイか寮で迷っていたのですが、もっと自立しなければいけないと思って寮の滞在を選びました。

寮の中にも様々な国籍の生徒が滞在しています。

私の部屋は二人部屋で、台湾人のルームメイトがいました。

休日にはレンタカーを借りて、ルームメイトとそのお友達と一緒に遠出をしました。

ルームメイトが車を運転してくれて、自国とは全然違う景色を堪能しました。

留学生活はとても充実したものでした。
